Search & Rescue

Emerging technologies for the early location of entrapped victims under collapsed structures and advanced wearables for risk assessment and first responders safety in SAR operations (Η2020, SU-DRS02-2018-2019-2020)

Objective: "The objectives of the Search & Rescue program were the design, implementation, and testing of a highly interoperable open-architecture platform for rescuers, which includes advanced frontend and backend equipment systems. The platform aims to enhance the decision-making process of rescuers by providing a dynamic, shared operational picture of the crisis.

Contribution of LPAD

  1. Development of a portable device that meets the operational needs of rescuers in search and rescue operations (RESCUE-MIMS device). The device has been tested in realistic usage scenarios, such as early detection of toxic environments and detection of chemical compounds related to 'human scent' for locating trapped individuals. Additionally, the device addresses field analysis challenges, such as harsh environments, dynamic changes in concentrations, and background interference during Search and Rescue operations.
