Information

Unit Operations I & II Laboratory
General Information
  1. The laboratory component of the Unit Operations I (5th semester) and Unit Operations II (6th semester) courses is shared and spans the entire academic year (2018-2019).
  2. For the current academic year (2018-2019), the laboratory will include 7 laboratory exercises (see the related schedule).
  3. To implement these exercises, thirty-six (42) laboratory groups will be created, divided into six (6) laboratory sessions. Each group will consist of five (4) students.
  4. Each laboratory group will complete four (4) laboratory exercises in the 5th semester and three (3) laboratory exercises in the 6th semester of the current academic year (2018-2019) (each laboratory session will be held every three weeks).
  5. In case a complete laboratory session is not conducted (e.g., due to holidays or strikes), the schedule WILL NOT be adjusted, and the exercises will be made up on the relevant dates according to the original timetable.
  6. Student (Group) Responsibilities:
  7. Theoretical preparation (prior to the execution of each laboratory exercise),
    - Timely arrival at the laboratory venue,
    - Active participation in conducting experimental measurements,
    - Submission of the laboratory report,
    - Oral examination.
  8. After completing the laboratory exercise, each group must submit the corresponding laboratory report through the electronic submission system of the School. The laboratory report must be written in accordance with the existing guidelines for report writing. The submission of the laboratory report is a prerequisite for the oral examination of the group.
  9. The oral examination of each laboratory group is conducted to assess the students' understanding of the laboratory exercises. It includes questions related to both the theory and practice, along with a discussion of the results presented in the laboratory report. Each laboratory group has a specific schedule for the examinations.
  10. The grades of students for each exercise is based on the following criteria:
  11. - Participation during the execution of the laboratory exercise (theoretical and practical aspects),
    - Evaluation of the laboratory report (submitted as a group).
    - Oral examination (which follows the submission of the laboratory report).
  12. In order to successfully complete the laboratory course (for each subject), at the end of the respective semester, each student (according to their group's schedule) must:
  13. - Participate in three laboratory exercises,
    - Submitted a report (per group) for all three lab exercises.
    - Been orally examined for all three.
    - Achieved a passing average grade (>=5).
  14. It should be noted that the laboratory component of the Unit Operations I (5th semester) and Unit Operations II (6th semester) courses is mandatory. Therefore, successful completion of the laboratory (per semester) is a prerequisite for participating in the written exam of the corresponding course.
The final grade of the laboratory contributes (mandatory) 30% to the final grade of the courses.
  15. For this purpose, the teams (students) must follow the scheduled timeline (for conducting and examining) of the laboratory exercises. In case a team or student misses the scheduled date for conducting or examining a specific laboratory exercise due to force majeure, arrangements for makeup sessions will be made on specific days.
